Make a good first-impression. Project a professional look and feel for your visitors. Using an organized navigation, and clutter-free layout will speak volumes.
A company logo might not seem that critical, but it is your company's identity. You don't need a complex logo for people to remember your company.... simplicity is good. Who would've thought the Nike swish would be so recognizable.. but it is. We create logos with easily legible fonts, small color palettes, and with a proportional shape that makes it easy to integrate into anything from business cards to billboards to t-shirts.
Though we don't preach minimalism, we try to keep our projects as simple-looking as possible, while still displaying something attractive to look at. Keeping pages short is important... cramming a huge amount of information on a single page will bury the most important points of a page, and make it virtually impossible to get your point across. Navigation must also be easy to find and use.... navigation trees and mouse-activated sub-navigation may not be the best solution for larger web sites.
Though spelling out your information in paragraphs is needed, showing the main points in a side list is helpful for your visitors.
Besides allowing the page to load faster, it also saves on valuable real estate on a web page. Images don't need to be big to look good on a site.
If your visitors are only coming to your site to buy a particular item they know you have, make a link to that product prominent on the home page. Dispense with large amounts of content if your site has a small purpose, such as selling well-known products or talking about a commonly-known subject.
